Before the Garity Knights were formed in 1957 there was a
proud football tradition in Ridgewood. Torchy, Gene, Dom
and others played on teams in the early 50's and some
photos of that era are starting to surface. At the most
recent Lynvet reunion (2006) Torchy was reunited with a
teammate of his - Jack Meyers. Jack had read the Timberg
book and came down from New Hampshire to attend the reunion
where he made contact with Torchy. Since then Jack has
located a few of their teammates and one of them: Tom
Wilcox, who played for the Glendale Legion, was considered
to be one of the best that ever played in Pop Warner. Tom
has supplied a few of the photos below. You can see that
the league press coverage in the early 1950's was great, ii
included photos as well as writes and scores and
statistics.

The press coverage was so good--that they even had
photos promoting the games--this
one from 1951.
The following photo was supplied by Tommy Wilcox, This is
from 1952. Tommy is #21, Torchy is #77 and Jack Meyers is
#89. The setting is Glenridge park. The person in the
background with the hat may be Teddy Ippolito.
